Michael Barry

Michael is a musician, writer and educator with a lifelong passion for creative endeavor and unique musical collaborations. He is a former Director of the International Studio of Music, home to the legendary American Institute of  Guitar, former President of the New York City Classical Guitar Society, and former staff instructor and Assistant Director at the Guitar Study Center at the New School.  Michael’s unique guitar playing, ranging from contemporary folk to Caribbean and from classical to rock, has been featured on records for various labels including Alfa International, Shanacie, Tess, Laughing Buddha, and Virgin.

A seasoned performer and lecturer, Michael also teaches workshops on creativity, producing music, the art of practice, and other subjects of interest to artists of all types. Michael has written for Urban Mozaik, Education Update, Big Apple Parent, Dan’s Papers, and others, and he has published articles, poems, lyrics and a haiku or two.
