The World Youth Leadership Network was created to serve as a platform for global youth to become involved in pressing issues through service and an exchange of cultures and ideas.
Every day, in the news, we see the problems that extreme economic disparity, absence of respect for our fellow man and lack of individual empowerment exact on our global community. We believe that these issues must first are to be solved in order build strength in individuals to successfully address large global concerns such as environmental deterioration, public health, good governance, conflict resolution and universal recognition of human rights.
Their ability to and become involved in the issues they care about in early age our is to take these ideas beyond hollow rhetoric and empower interested, motivated young people with an opportunity to be involved in the issues of the day through projects and forums and, most importantly, to see tangible results from their involvement.
Since our founding in 2004, we have paid special attention to three issues; technological infrastructure development in Africa, strengthening the Chinese / Tibetan dialogue and providing basic goods and services to those in need in Iraq.
In Africa, our specific goal has been to set up at least one Information Technology center in each nation to enable as many people as possible to access global information.
In working with the Tibetans and Chinese, we have advocated the Dalai Lama’s proposed “Middle Way” as the first step towards a potential lasting peace settlement. Throughout this process we have hosted multiple concerts where artists of both heritages have shared the stage. We have also held conferences within the region to bring together scholars and officials to further develop the dialog between the peoples.
In Iraq, WYLN has established close working relationships with Iraqi doctors, professors and members of parliament. We, in 2006, delivered medical aid of approximately $500,000 .00 directly to Baghdad.
In Japan, we have had WYLN launching concert at Bunkamura concert hall in Tokyo. In the country of raising sun, we found our role model – Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat whose care for humanity in his life time in spite of obstacles to live them fully, made us all stronger and more committed into our aspiration to contribute betterment of the mankind during our life times.
Whether by establishing IT centers, sending medical aid, promoting Peace dialogue through cultural diplomacy or organizing youth educational and cultural events, WYLN will continue to work day by day, in empowering the youth worldwide.
I am honored and privileged to be able to work with so many great young individuals affiliated with WYLN.
Without great young people, to name the few, like Shinichiro Okuyama, Phaldip Khela, Friederike Hofman, Jacqueline Mtchaki, Hala Al Saraf, Karim Cisse, Kalsang Tsering, Joanna Birch-Phaure, Taro John Inoue, Wolf Christian Paes, Zlatimira Tsolova, Anna Fallman, Leon Saltiel, Lobsang Kalon, Nellie Burlan and others, many of our projects would not come to life.
Thank you.
