IT Centers
Senegal

SenegalWYLN created an IT Center with our strategic partner, ONG Connexion Sans Frontieres. Given the success of this project, the WYLN Board would like to acknowledge Mr. Ahmed Karim Cisse, Secretary General of ONG CSF, whose hard work and dedication to the youth of Senegal and Burkina Faso has paid measurable dividends in local political, education and technological development.

Nigeria

NigeriaIn partnership with the Youth Center for African Development, WYLN will support an IT center in Nigeria designed to help Nigerian youth to create sustainable action plan for their empowerment programs and negotiations with their government. WYLN will also provide medications requested specifically for youth-related issues to hospitals throughout the country.

Liberia

LiberiaIn cooperation with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), UNICEF and the UN Civil Unit, WYLN donated 40 computers and a large shipment of books to help develop local infrastructure and empower students in Liberia through increased access to information and increased exposure to modern technology.

On November 30th, WYLN President Sasa Toperic performed a humanitarian fund-raising concert in Monrovia for the Louis Arthur Grimes Law School. The concert was organized by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to Liberia, Jacques Paul Klein, and the interim President of Liberia, Charles Gyude Bryant.

The event raised $25,000 that was donated to educational development at Monrovia University. The concert was the first such event in Liberia in over 40 years and was broadcast live throughout the continent by UN radio.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and HerzegovinaIn partnership with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia & Herzegovina, WYLN sent over 100 computers to schools in rural areas of the country. We believe that, in the post-war reconstruction and rebuilding phase of B&H, it is imperative that young students in remote villages have access to the Internet so they can have the opportunity to reach their full potential and, in the process, be an even stronger resource for the future of the county.
Some villages where computers were donated even lacked phone lines. However, thanks to the efforts of Safet Halilovic, Minister of Civil Affairs and B&H Post Agency, phone service has been extended to these villages and their residents have both improved communications and access to the Internet.

Benin

BeninWYLN sent 40 computers to the Benin Education Center in Natitingou. Also, in partnership with the Benin Education Fund,WYLN provided 11 scholarships specifically dedicated for students who have no means to provide for their own education. Both the Education Center and Education Fund are run by WYLN Africa Chairman, Alphonse I. Kouagou.
WYLN is supporting further development of the Benin Education Center which will eventually be comprised of a school, IT center and library. In addition, WYLN Advisor Joan Lebach has agreed to dedicate two weeks of every year to teaching English at the Center.
In further cooperation with the Benin Education Fund, WYLN is in discussions with the Government of Benin to purchase land and build factory facilities that will provided high wages and stable employment for the youth of the region. The WYLN factory facilities will be integrated with the Benin Education Center and Education Fund to provide more educational opportunities for local youth.
